Future Technology

Considerable research was conducted to develop the concept for the CounterBalance Shoe. Both present technologies and future technologies were researched in order to take advantage of lessons learned and possibilities. Some of the future technologies that can support development of the CounterBalance Shoe include:

The "Magic Carpet" The "iShoe" "Biometric Insoles"
The "Magic Carpet" being developed by the University of Manchester uses optical fibers woven into a carpet to monitor steps and falls. NASA's “iShoe” contains sensors that read how well a person is balancing. “Biometric Insoles” being researched at Carnegie Mellon have sensors to monitor characteristics of peoples feet.
