L.E.A.D.S.

Laminitis Equine Absolute Diagnosis System

We plan to completely eliminate the discomforts and troubles of laminitis by creating the L.E.A.D.S. The L.E.A.D.S. would be a white, rectangular pad with soft edges. It would be about the size of today's iPad mini and would have one squishy, tactile side and one harder side. The squishy side would have diamond-shaped cushions running across the surface of it. These cushions would have indentations at each of their four corners. Each indentation would hide a camera or sensor that would be ready to take x-rays, venograms, or radiography pictures at the touch of a button. You could also apply a cleaning solution to the squishy side if you wanted to clean out any wound on the horse's body.

The hard side would be very similar to the iPad minis that we have today. It would have a shiny black screen when powered off. When turned on, the hard side would display multiple 'apps' that could be easily used. Some of the apps would be 'X-Ray', 'Venogram', 'Internet', and 'Camera'. If you wanted to take an x-ray, you would select the x-ray app and a screen would come up with a button that said 'Go'. You would lift the horse's hoof, press the pad (squishy side down) into the horse's hoof, and press 'Go'. A screen would appear that said 'Loading', and then the screen would say 'Done' and the results would appear. If you wanted to take a picture, the squishy side would roll up like a curtain and a high-resolution camera would appear.

The L.E.A.D.S. would be very thick and it would have two small drawers on each of the long sides of the rectangle. The drawers would each open easily and inside each drawer there would be a small petri dish. You could put blood, bone, or soft tissue samples into these petri dishes and close the drawers. The L.E.A.D.S. would automatically analyze the sample and display the results right there and then on the hard screen. The L.E.A.D.S. would be only available to vets in the beginning (and might be modified for use on humans in the future).

The L.E.A.D.S. would use advanced x-ray, venogram, and radiography technology to practically penetrate the hoof wall and see inside the hoof, easily measuring how severe the case of laminitis has become, if there is a case at all. It will be a big step forward in creating a healthier horse.

L.E.A.D.S.- For the Healthier Horse.

Here we have multiple pictures of our prototype. To the left is the squishy side, in the center is the drawers, and to the right is the hard side.
