The Patient Comfort System (PCS) is a gurney (also called a hospital stretcher)
that uses superconducting magnets to levitate the mattress of the gurney over
the gurney itself (illustrated in the picture below). This device is used to make
the ride smoother for the patient, as well as to make transfers from bed to
gurney to exam table less painful for the nurses and patients.
