• To fight these addictions, many methods have been developed but some are hard to accomplish and others have some serious side effects.  
• For example - Methadone is addictive itself and has side effects such as nausea, vomiting, urine retention, constipation, and drowsiness.
• The nicotine patch stops the addiction to nicotine and therefore smoking. Nevertheless, the patch has to be put on a different spot on the body each day, which can be difficult.
• Then there is the twelve step program which involves praying, admitting that you are addicted, and asking for help and forgiveness. This involves a lot of self discipline and doesn't work for all people.
