• Drugs are poisonous and addictive! An example of a very addictive drug is cocaine. Cocaine releases all the dopamine in the pleasure center of the brain. This makes the user feel very euphoric.
• However, when too much dopamine is release, the user feels paranoid and starts hallucinating. After the cocaine wears off, the user is miserable because the cocaine has used up all of the dopamine. The user now has to wait a few hours or even days for the dopamine levels to recover. The user wants to take cocaine again because they think it will make them happy. When they take it, more dopamine is released and the euphoric feeling returns. When someone takes cocaine again and again, it becomes an addiction.
