Moving Forward

In order for the SMART Moves concept to be functional, it requires technical leaps in the area of computer and scanning technology, nanotechnology, sensor technology, and electronics.

The accelerometers and vertical sensors must be smaller to attach to the nitinol wires within the nanofibers. The sensors would be powered by radio frequencies from nearby cell phones.

A computer program would need to be developed that could scan a person’s body to determine the precise measurements of their muscle structure.

Further improvements in 3D scanner technology could be adapted to getting the exact measurements of the muscle structure of the human body.

A waterproof fabric needs to be developed that can have sensors and electronics woven into it that sense movement of a human body away from the vertical position and contract the targeted muscles in the person’s body to bend them back into the correct, upright position.

Nanofibers need to be adapted to create the structure of the mobility fabric. They must be extremely small, lightweight, and strong to allow for a comfortable and longer lasting fabric compatible with electronics.

A programmed computer chip must be connected to the nitinol wire to control the amount of electric charge that is delivered, so the nitinol wire can contract to pull or aide muscles to bend the correct part of the body. The wire would need to have at least human speed reflexes and strength in order for it to work. For the wire to act faster and stronger, a different alloy of metal will be required.

The image screen needs to be thinner and more flexible, like an advanced type of electronic paper technology. The electronic paper needs to be a thin, flexible plastic screen with a removable flash drive so it can be removed and the information given to emergency staff or a family member.

A smart phone application connected to a SMART Moves suit would need to be developed that would call 911 if a person does end up falling. This type of application could speed up the emergency response time to get help sooner.
