RAM Air Turbine
The “Subway Smart System” utilizes
Smart Rails, a device that can
extract energy from the wind that is
generated when trains move down
the track.

The Smart Rails device is an advanced form of Ram Air Turbine, which consists of an impeller attached to a generator. This spins the generator creating electricity.

The fan blades will not be simple propellers, but rather, will have shapes optimized to best utilize the wind coming from different directions as the train passes. They will have sophisticated microprocessor controls that can vary the pitch of the blades in order to most efficiently tap the wind energy of the trains and avoid damage if the wind is too strong, yet harness the energy of light winds.
