DSRC Receiver and Antennae

DSRC is the communication link for the VEWS system.  The DSRC components will receive the following via 5.9 GHz microwaves:

  the actual lahar warning signal

updated computer files, including audio, GPS and holographic

As evacuation begins, the DSRC signal will have also been sent to all traffic signals (stoplights) on the proper evacuation routes.  This will allow for one-way traffic to higher ground.  This system will also help tourists and other visitors in the area to find the proper evacuation route, if they are not familiar with the roads around the volcano.

These traffic signal commands will come, via DSRC, from the Emergency Management Control Centers in the local communities.
