It will save many lives, because of more
reliable evacuation.
The start-up of VEWS,
including installing DSRC receivers in all traffic signals, and installing
VEWS CD units in each vehicle and building
unit, will be expensive.
The voice files will reassure people during an
emergency situation.
There is the possibility of equipment
malfunction, although currently existing sirens will still be in place as a
back-up system.
The
VEWS technology can be adapted for use in communities at risk for
other natural disasters, including tsunamis and wildfires.
