The  Cavity  Zapper
Cavity prevention has never been great. The skulls of
Cro-Magnon people, the early version of human beings,
show that they had tooth decay. People have been having
cavities for 35,000 years.
Arab doctors were the first to understand that
teeth needed to be cleaned. They invented
instruments to scrape teeth. They used
mouthwashes and tooth powders. They would get
a stick and start banging it down to soften it at
one end. This was like a toothbrush.
An American named Greene Vardiman Black,
who lived from 1831 to 1915, was the first to
notice that the sticky coating on teeth was
bacterial. He figured out that cavities are caused
by bacteria. His theory was proved to be correct
in the early 1960's.
