Prometheus

In Greek mythology the Titan Prometheus—his name means “foresight”—was known as the benefactor and protector of mankind. He taught the mortals arts and sciences, and, most importantly, gave them fire, which led to the development of culture, technology, and progress. Although Zeus had intended for humans to live as primitive animals, the gifts of Prometheus allowed them to develop civilization and control their own fates.
