Medical Drug Treatments
Usually, TN patients first take medicational drugs to relieve pain.
Several drug treatments are available: anti-convulsants,
anti-depressants, anti-spasticity drugs, and painkillers.
Negatives:
-they only relieve pain
temporarily
-they do not agree with
every patient
-25%-50% of patients stop
responding to drugs and need
alternative treatments such as surgery
Carbamazepine, an anti-convulsant, is the most
commonly used drug for trigeminal neuralgia.
