The Land Mine Protector (L.M.P.) is an unmanned, saucer-shaped aircraft that detects and then destroys land mines. Each year 24,000 people are hurt or killed by land mines. This invention does not use humans to find or clear land mines. Studies show that eight hundred people die from stepping on a land mine each month, and thousands more get maimed for life by losing a leg or arm. The country of Cambodia has 143 land mines per square mile, and an estimated 10,000,000 mines are buried in that country. In Afghanistan, small green land mines in that country are so common that children refer to them as "Green Parrots." Land mines may be plastic or metal, and may be found in any terrain.
