Before SCNCM can become a reality, engineers and medical professionals need to overcome several problems.


1. Development Systems

In order for SCNCM to be economically feasible, a method of mass production of the various apparatus for the artificial kidney must be developed. These include the tubes and membranes inside the artificial kidney. Manufacturing will be tedious and cost prohibitive.

With the development of a nano-assembler, companies would have access to procedures and materials in order to create nano-sized equipment. This will allow for a larger production scale at a much lower cost to investors.

However, for this to become a reality, scientists would have to apply mechanochemistry, which is the formation and breaking of chemical bonds under mechanical control; nanomanipulation. which is the manipulation of atoms and other compounds at the nanoscale, has yet to be perfected as well.
