A better method of testing for performance enhancing drugs in sports: nanobiosensors

Breakthroughs

  • Identifying and isolating the receptor and target molecules for each performance enhancing drug.
  • A way to coat each single walled carbon nanotubes with the receptor molecules would need to be perfected.
  • New acceptable and unacceptable biological levels need to be established for every drug.
  • The technology for the miniaturized, accurate optical sensing and measurement devices used to detect the changes in fluorescence, recording, and reading the results must be developed.
  • The optical detection and measurement device would have to be microsized to fit on a thin film that could be mass produced.
  • Low cost manufacturing methods to mass produce these devices inexpensively must be devised.
