A better method of testing for performance enhancing drugs in sports: nanobiosensors
Breakthroughs
- Identifying and isolating the receptor and target molecules for each performance enhancing drug.
- A way to coat each single walled carbon nanotubes with the receptor molecules would need to be perfected.
- New acceptable and unacceptable biological levels need to be established for every drug.
- The technology for the miniaturized, accurate optical sensing and measurement devices used to detect the changes in fluorescence, recording, and reading the results must be developed.
- The optical detection and measurement device would have to be microsized to fit on a thin film that could be mass produced.
- Low cost manufacturing methods to mass produce these devices inexpensively must be devised.
